Mississauga Dolphins hosted their first ever “Meet ‘n Greet” on April 29th, 2016. The young Mississauga club, starting its 6th season in a few weeks, held their sponsor ‘meet and greet’ and jersey launch at the Mississauga Valley Community Center. The club enjoyed the presence of friends and family along with a few big names in the local community, with the attendance touching 130 plus guests. Senior members of the club, namely Haroon Siddiqui and Zubair Ali, the co-vice presidents of the club started with the opening speech and Daniyal Abrar, MC for the night, introduced the sponsors and engaged the audience.
Before the main event began, the most anticipated part of the event took place, dinner. The dinner menu was quite different from a typical menu often encountered at most South Asian events; Hakka Chinese. Friends, family and members of the community engaged in chatter while enjoying their dinner.
After dessert was served, the sponsors were asked for a respective representative to come up on the stage and introduce themselves and share some background information with the guests. The sponsors included; The Health First Group, ReMax Realtor Ranjit Nijjar, Skyzone Indoor Trampoline Park, Max Mortgages, and Dominos Pizza for Region of Halton and Malton. After the sponsors gave their speeches. Aryan Hussain, a community activist and board member of United Canadian Pakistani Volunteers (UCPV) had a few words to say regarding volunteering in the local community and upcoming event on May 13th.
Later what followed was the most entertaining part of the event, Mississauga Dolphins’s very own mascot, a dolphin by the name of ‘Yorkie’. The idea of a cricket club having their very own mascot is most likely one of the first ever in the North American cricket community. The name Yorkie comes from the cricketing term for bowling a ‘yorker’, also relating to the high number of fast bowlers in the club. This was a huge hit with the kids; the mascot engaged with high-fives and handed out candy to the kids.
Eventually as the event was coming to an end, the final part began; the jersey launch. The new Mississauga Dolphins 2016 season jersey was revealed and the players were called up in alphabetical order to receive their jerseys respectively. The 2016 jersey was mostly of green color with bits of black and grey. The grey in green allegedly represents the diversity and fair share in the club. The jersey has the player names and number in a single line rather than the traditional name over number format, hence giving the jersey a very unique look. Before the event was concluded individual portrait photo shoots took place followed by a group photo of the club members. By 10 pm a successful “Meet ‘n Greet” event wrapped up.
Been part of this organization for a year and it's allowed me to meet tons of people who helped me succeed and have fun playing the sport I love. Would recommend to anybody looking for a club to join
Being part of this organization since day 1. The opportunity that this organization has provided are unreal. For any new comer to canada looking for a cricket club... this is the place to be. Home away from home kinda vibes.
I have known the organization for the past 10 years and every year I see them grow into a more versatile club. Representing this club has been an honour for me and many others as the welcome you like family.
