Sunday July 3rd 2016. Mississauga Dolphins’ premier team faced Ahmadiyya Cricket Club on a warm but pleasant Sunday afternoon. Ahmadiyya won the toss and elected to bat first. Both openers for Ahmadiyya came in with the mindset to attack and after a few close calls both openers were able to find the boundary at regular intervals. After getting 37 runs on the board in around four overs, Husnain Riaz managed to find the edge of one of the batsmen, the bowler followed this by catching the next two batsmen plumb in front of the stumps in consecutive deliveries and therefore claiming his first hattrick for Mississauga Dolphins. Even after losing three quick wickets Ahmadiyya were not deterred and continued with the attacking intent. Ahmadiyya managed to build a good partnership, before Lakhbeer Singh uproot the stumps of the remaining opener. From there onwards dolphins’ spinners and death bowlers, Fayez Alaziz, Taj Pawar and Mazhar Jaffri picked up wickets at regular intervals and after some resistance from the number ten batsmen, wrapped up the innings for 206.
Chasing a target of 207 Dolphins lost both their openers at the start of their chase. The batsmen that followed started to build partnerships but lost their wickets as soon as they started to look comfortable. Dolphins were 116/7 before captain Adeel Ahmed and Mazhar jaffri looked to take the game away from Ahmadiyya. After the fall of the captain’s wicket, Mazhar tried to work with the tail to chase down the target. Unfortunately for Dolphins, Ahmadiyya managed to take out the tail and Mazhar, who could have possibly finished the game off single handedly was left stranded unbeaten on 29. Dolphins lost their third premier game in a row by 20 runs.
