BuyNCell Cup Game 1: Zubair does Michael Bevan


Malton, ON: BuyNCell Cup 2016 game #1 was played wildwood park. On a newly rolled matt and lightening outfield, Pacific Dolphins won the toss and elected to bat first.  First wicket fell off the first ball of the game. Talhah Rehan was caught out on bowling of Bilal Khanzada. Mohib Habibullah Khan was joined by Waheed Raza,  pair gave a 50 runs stand before Mohib fell off to Bilal, who picked up another wicket the next ball but could not get the hattrick which was faced by Ammar Khalid. Waheed and Ammar, played well and pushed the score close to 100. Waheed was out for 32 while Ammar looked at his best scoring all over the park. He scored 51 off 24 before he was retired. Umair Ali, Daniyal Abrar (c/wk) and Taha Usmani ended the first innings of Dolphins on high scoring 70 off last 5 overs. Pacific scored 206/6 after 20. Bilal Khanzada was outstanding the ball claiming 4for, while other bowlers leaked runs from Atlantic.

Atlantic Dolphins, looked troubled from first over. They lost 5 wickets in first 8 overs. Two courtesy of sublime fielding effort from Waheed Raza. Atlantic need 120 off 48 balls when skipper Zubair Ali was at the crease with 40 overs captain Mazhar Jaffri. Pair picked up singles on good balls and belted boundaries on bad balls. Mazhar drove the ball around the park, while Zubair dispatched it out of the park almost every time he faced one. Zubair retired after 24 balls as well. Mazhar got out trying to bring the target under 6 per over. With 4 overs to go, game was run a ball and 3 wickets in hand. Super-sub Amit Thakur with debutante Kashif Hussain brought the game he 10 off 12. Lakhbeer bowled the 19th over got rid of Kashif.  With 4 to win off 6. Youngster Azan Salem Butt, with Amit Thakur had to face 9th bowler of the innings. Umair Ali tried to keep Azan on strike but youngster did well gave Amit Strike to face 5 to score 3. Amit pulled 3rd ball of the over to midwicket and won the game for his side. Zubair Ali, showed his clase while Mazhar and Amit never game up.

Next game of the tournament will be played on 3rd of June with Pacific looking to get the revenge. Overall it was a hard fought game and both line ups liked the intensity in which the game was played and supervised by the umpires.
